Meet Our Team

Pastor Becky High

In 1989, through the process of telemarketing, Pastor Becky was one of many volunteers who helped start Christ Community Church. After serving as a Sunday School teacher, Youth Director, on staff as Director of Discipleship, and then responding to a call to professional ministry, Becky also served Christ Community as Associate Pastor. In 2008 Pastor Becky was called and appointed to serve Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church as their Associate Pastor. It was 2017 when she was unexpectedly and excitedly called back to Christ Community and continues to serve here as Lead Pastor.  Pastor Becky and her husband Phil own a jewelry business in uptown Marion and have 3 sons and 5 grandchildren.  You’ll likely find her hanging out with the Youth Group, spending time with the grandkids, eating chocolate, or outside taking a walk.

 Our History

The vision for a second Methodist Church in Marion, IA, came into being in the late 1980’s, around the same time something known as “contemporary worship” was beginning to be noticed in the Midwest. Founding Pastor Ron Blix and a team of volunteers began a telemarketing campaign out of the basement of the First United Methodist Church in uptown Marion. From there people were invited to this new church with the contemporary worship style that would be meeting at the Collins Road Theater. On the first Sunday of worship on Oct. 8, 1989, 400 people gathered to worship the Lord!

The congregation grew and it was 1992 when the church moved to a second location. The Linn Mar High School Auditorium became home to Christ Community for the next several years.

After receiving a generous offer from nearby land owners, Christ Community built on it’s current location, holding the first worship service there in January, 1995.

More on the history of Christ Community will be coming soon!!

What We Believe

What We Believe

  • A relationship with God is where the depths of your heart are satisfied. In this relationship, our identity, fulfillment, and peace are given meaning and purpose.

  • We believe what the world needs is more Jesus.

  • Regardless of where you are in your journey, we welcome you

  • About God: We believe in one triune God- God the Father, God the Son: Jesus Christ, and God the Holy Spirit. God is all-powerful, all-knowing, and all-present and the creator of all things. There is no greater love than the love which comes from the Father, by the Son, through the Spirit. (1 John 1:1-7)

  • About Salvation: The good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ! Our salvation comes through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ on the cross. By grace we receive new life through repentance and faith in Christ. In this we are forgiven and born again. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

  • About Scripture: We believe scripture points us to what life with Jesus looks like and helps us connect to God. We affirm the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, was inspired by God, so its words are the written and true revelation of God. It is therefore authoritative in all matters. (2 Timothy 3:16)

  • About Humanity: We believe we are created in the image of God, and as such, we are all recipients of God's grace. Because of humanity's choice to break the covenant with God, we are all marred by sin. (Colossians 1:15-23)

  • About The Church: We believe the church around the globe and throughout history is working for the reconciliation of the world. (Ephesians 4:11-12; Hebrews 10:24-25, 12:1)
